Week 3- Erin Yen
In
this week’s reading and theme, “health industrial complex and clash of self.” Spirit
can heal and recover people’s mental illness or something that can’t explain in
scientific way.
This
reminds me of what the guest speaker shared about Hmong Shamanism, “Shaman are
the chosen ones, they can’t just be when they want to be it.” Some people don’t
believe a Shaman can heal their spirit until they have experience with it. What
came up into my mind when reading the articles and listening to the speaker’s
story is that I think how a Shaman rituals were created was how some countries
such as India has the lack of medical resources.
From the reading,” Combining
Indian and Western Spiritual Psychology: Applications to Health and Social
Renewal” how it is related to this week’s theme is that religious practices’
effects on the health of Indian population and the impact of meditations in
their psychological mindset. Religious and spiritual diversity in the world is
also considered since globalization has resulted into diverse cultures living
together and interacting regularly.
Questions: What is the
framework or process for combining western medicine ideas and eastern medicine?
And how to take care of people whose illnesses and ailments cannot be
explain by contemporary western medicine?
