Week 8- Alesha Byrne

During this week I loved how interconnected the theme between all of our readings were. In the “Reclaiming Spirituality” reading it brought up a good point about the existence of Western beliefs (in academia) not being focused so much on spiritual beliefs but the perception of what is physically there- the “being” of the self and static items in the world. The concept is that whatever is in the world has an existence that can/should be explained with research, theory, or fact as determined by academia. I wonder if this is related at all to the studies of Eastern versus Western thought? While I was overseas, this particular documentary brought up a lot of questions about what made our ways of processing information so different. I also wonder if this difference in information processing has made us skeptical of spirituality that doesn’t immediately reflect our instinctual way of processing information. (Now, this isn’t a claim that one is better than the other, but there is a clear connection between language and thought form, thought form and spiritual morality. Sacred spaces as mentioned in the first article are different from culture to culture- how can we determine why these developed in the way that they did?)
