Week 7- Diane Tran
To be honest, while I was reading the article "A New Theory of the Universe" by Robert Lanza, I became to perceive the universe a little more differently now. This also made me scared because while reading it, it gave me an eerie tone. He talked about how two objects such as himself and the beetle entered each other's realities. From reading this article, I wondered if his reality was different from the beetle's reality. And what if science, the one thing pulling our universe together that makes sense of everything was not real? Lanza emphasizes how we all do not perceive and think about our realities enough. He also indicates that science conceptualizes these theories, stories, and explanations we have because we ourselves are creating them. He mentions, "Without perception, there is in effect no reality. Nothing has existence unless you, I, or some living creature perceives it, and how it is perceived further influences that reality." So without perception, there is no such thing as a reality. This makes me question what truly makes a reality, is it perceived through you, me, or that small bug on the floor? In my perspective, I feel like perception is perceived through the eye of the beholder. Does that mean that once an object, human, or tangible things disappear in general, does the perceived reality slowly disappear as well? This also makes me question is whatever we really perceive reality? There is a perception pyramid that indicates that you perceive something one way while reality indicates a different way. The way I perceive myself might be different from someone else.
