The Universe

Whenever I think about the universe, it always trips me out. I’ve always had many questions about life and how/why things are the way they are. For example, what if the color red isn’t actually the color we see but we say its red because that’s what we were taught. To me, it has always been crazy how Earth is just a tiny part of the universe. In “The American Scholar – A New Theory of the Universe,” Robert Lanza talks about how the law of physics and chemistry is how we understand life as we know it, but he believes that “A full understanding of life cannot be found by looking at cells and molecules through a microscope.” He talks about how in today’s generation, science has taken over and people fail to see the truth of the reality.

He also mentions our conscious and its role in “determining the nature of reality.” He argues that we must question what we know about space and time “in order to recognize that it is the activity of consciousness itself.” Consciousness is not possible without a living organism to understand its ability to create. I think the brain is a complicated thing and it is hard to understand all its capabilities. “Neuroscientists believe that the problem of consciousness can someday be solved once we understand all the synaptic connections in the brain.”

Another interesting topic Lanza talks about is time and space. Time and space are intangible things as mentioned in the article, we cannot use our five senses to understand. He says that everything we go through “is being actively generated in your mind,” which makes me wonder if something is really uncomfortable, ugly, pretty, ect. or is it just inside of my head? The topic of life and the universe has always been such a big topic for me because it brings up so many questions.

Why can I hear myself think even though not a single word comes out of my mouth?
