Week 7-Vivianne Lee

In this week's reading, Robert Lanza's a New Theory of the Universe discusses the theme of time, space, and momentum and how humans are forcibly applying both physical and mathematical properties to situations that cannot simply be explained by science. Lanza states, "Most of these comprehensive theories are no more than stories that fail to take into account one crucial factor: we are creating them." Lanza explains how the modern society became so obsessive with creating theories solely based off of Science when the nature of the universe has aspects that cannot be understood fully by just using laws and mathematical properties. I realized after reading this article how important it is for Scientists and philosophers to take a step back and take into consideration non-scientific explanations. Lanza states, "Nothing has existence unless you, I, or some living creature perceives it, and how it is perceived further influences that reality. Even time itself is not exempted from biocentrism." The society has defined time as something that is measurable and changes by the minute, when in reality, time is simply just an aspect of our consciousness. According to the article,  Science has no real explanation for why we’re here, for why we exist now... "it’s just an accident, a one-in-a-gazillion chance that I am here and that you are there."
