Week 9 Christian Ho
For this week we continue to talk about the obstacles spirituality has in being taught to the rest of the world. As the world enters a new age of technology and information, it makes it bit difficult for spirituality and religion to have an influence on individuals life. At the moment most of the current younger generations view religions along with spirituality as outdated and unnecessary to living life. Especially with the influence the United States has on the world, most countries tried to model themselves after the U.S. and with the U.S. having more of a sharp decline on religion and spirituality other try to copy that as well. In a sense government want to be more successful like U.S. and one way of doing that is to embrace the new age of technology and modernization and one consequence of doing that is letting go cultural roots or spiritual practice as they no longer have a place in the world anymore. As mentioned in the article by Michael York, "In a secularized democracy in which religious dogmas and ethical notions have lost their dominance, there is more scope for individual dissent and change." The idea of spirituality is starting to fade alongside with religion because science now has the answers for people. There once was an era where religion and spirituality had a much more influence on people's lives, but now it has transition to the point where that is not the case anymore. The idea of diversity is slowly dying on a global sense has countries try to be like one another and that requires dissipation of religious groups along with anything that doesn't comply with science is useless.
