Spirits Spirits Everywhere: Animism and Modern Interpretations

"They understood that there is deep wisdom in the rhythms of the Earth and an infinite variety of life experience stored by our fellow creature and by spirits" (3).

In the article 'We Are Not Alone' The Shamans Of The World Tell Us, by The Scientific and Medical Network, it is believed that spirits live amongst the entire world through various objects and beings, such as plants, animals, and even the Earth itself. As mentioned in the quote above, the backbone of Animism stems from the belief that there is purpose inn everything and that spirits stick around us to help guide us with their wisdom. In the reading, these spirits are believed to be ancestors, who are deep sources of knowledge, and send messages to "counsel and aid." The role of shamans are important in that they use their own spiritual connections to help maintain and restore balance between humans and the rest of nature. It is said that shamans go into a certain trance, where they are able to enter another realm or consciousness and ask for guidance in their journey. This guidance is most likely an animal or spirit guide, who helps the shaman find answers for themselves or the person wishing for aid. The outcomes are non-preferential, meaning that the answers may or may not be what one is expecting or wants.
If trees have spirits, do the spirits leave or die if the tree gets cut down or dies?
