Week 4
Animism and Modern Interpretations
Upon reading the article "We are not Alone", I found it interesting how the article was saying how shamanism was a way to bring and connect nature and the real world. This reminded me of Mother Nature and how we believe that nature is trying to tell us something just like in Pocahontus. I found it insightful and more believable how the article mentioned that science and shamanism and spirits complement each other and that both are inarguable. I appreciated how it mentioned that shamanism isn't science but there are still people that are very disciplined and dedicated to follow the necessary steps to learn how to become a shaman. This reminded me of a similar experience when I was brought to a spirit reader, most likely a shaman, in Taiwan to read about my future. He was talking to a so-called spirit to communicate with them and everything that he predicted has been true up until this point. The article also mentioned how the people who go to a shaman often come back with very accurate readings. My question is, how did this become something that is nearly mainstream? How was this discovered and why does it matter whether or not we know our destiny?
