The Indian and Western spiritual psychologies, although effective in their own ways, have never been intertwined. Singh and Oman established this assertion by studying in-depth both systems and their corresponding effectiveness and efficacy. Although the West is mostly seemed inspired from the spiritual psychology of Indian, the growth of this subject is limited in the Western scholarships. However, it is seemingly gaining more attention in the Indian psychological research. The main theme of Singh and Oman’s work is built on the principle that empirical research is undoubtedly important, the experiences and realization of individuals in terms of mindfulness should be integrated into psychology.
Since religion was sidelined in the Western scientific exploration, empirical evidence and reasoning attained more value. If such paradigms are left unconsidered, it becomes pseudo-science, and ultimately loses its value. However, in India, yoga and religious scripture of Bhagwat Geeta, which explains the spiritual ways of meditation, such as yoga and mindfulness techniques under the supervision of gurus, the psychological research highly focuses on these aspects. Spiritualty presupposes individuals trust, which significantly improves the level of care.
I personally think meditation as mindfulness as an imperative element that provide humans a way to realize their inner selves. This article reminds of the discussion between neuroscientists and Sadhguru of India that was held at Oxford University, whereby, they discussed how consciousness and comma are in the control of a person, and how mindful techniques can help them provide efficient healthcare. Additionally, Sadhguru explained the ways breathing techniques are realization of inner being through spirituality can help reduce the factors of fear, anxiety, and other psychological and mental health problems. Therefore, it relates heavily to the theme, and the experts on psychology, as Singh and Oman recommended, should consider both dimensions to devise effective care plans.
