Linda Xiao-week 6

This week I read the article called ‘You are here’: Locating ‘Spirituality’ on the Map of the Current Medical World. After reading this article, I realized that there are a lot of intersections between the spiritual and our current health care. Nowadays, a lot of people in the medical field agree that our spiritual health is just as important as our physical health. In fact, our spiritual health can affect our physical health subconsciously. Thus, maintaining a positive mindset is maintaining overall health. In addition, this article mentions that clinical chaplains have a mindfulness and trans personal mindfulness process with patients, which helps patients develop more positive feelings. They feel more secure and less anxious. Spiritual healing can help build better relationships between patients and clinical physicians. When a patient is able to trust their doctor, they will heal better. I was amazed by the chart in the article, which shows the interaction between the chaplain and the patient as the chaplains try to heal the patient. The chart mentions that the patient’s story and emotion is very important. This behavior is the key to a patient’s spirituality and heary. At this point, I thought psychologists might also do the same for their patients.

Question: Do you think psychologists and chaplains do similar jobs for their patients?
