ray ruano- week #6
'Our understanding and/or definition of ‘spirituality’ or ‘spiritual care’ may lie in that ‘search’ (for the ‘self’ or the ‘divine’ and the inner dialogue with it) which helps individuals find meaning and purpose in their struggles,' taken from this week's reading.
When I reflect on my spiritual journey, I begin to see my present self and how much learning I have done over the years. I think about when I first heard about psychedelics and their mind-altering powers on the brain and spirit. In the beginning, my intentions for taking them were not always clear. I wanted to see things that I couldn't see sober while also trying to understand their power.
In the beginning, it was not "working for me." With time, my patience grew and I was able to finally "trip" which showed me a lot about myself and the world. Over time and with experience, both bad and good, I learned so much. I learned to respect these plants. Which changed my perspective on drugs as a concept and my relationship with substances.
Now, I set my intentions clear and clear my mind before I begin any new journey. I know that taking these substances can be dangerous but can be a shortcut to the self and oneness. I also know that you can reach other states of consciousness without these substances, but it will take more patience, openness, and determination.
What else can we learn from those who do not take this "shortcut" and find other ways to reach other states of the mind and spirit?
