Raymond Trinh - Week 9
In Spirituality in the Academy: Reclaiming From The Margins and Evoking a Transformative Way of Knowing the World, the author Riyah Ahmed Shahjahan examines the landscape of the neo-colonial academy and delineates the conditions that restricts the spaces for spirituality. Shahjahan's two main objectives in this paper is to explore the answers for the following questions: Why is spirituality marginalized in the academy? How would centering spirituality transform our ways of knowing? Spirituality means different things to different people, which makes it a challenging topic to discuss within the academic framework. Nevertheless, the topic of spirituality cannot be left on the margins and must be brought to the center of discussion in the academy. It is important for us to engage in work that facilitates our subject formation and helps ground us with the spirit within that I believe to be interconnected with everything around us. This is the perfect example of how healing can take place.
