Week 6
Science Catches up to the Spirit Realm
Tiffany Yang
Upon reading the article "You are Here", the research and findings have shown that having more mindful and spiritual practices included in patients have increased mindfulness and empathy which allows them to be more aware of their body. This also allows people to help them be more empathetic with patients. They also noted the actual physiological changes that happen when someone is more spiritually in tune and the specific changes in certain parts of the brain. I find this to be true. Personally, I've been meditating for quite a bit and have found myself to be able to focus and listen to my body. Because I have increased this skill, I'm able to see and identify certain aches and pains and stresses in my body that I need to work on. I think this is what the article is saying is that by incorporating more spiritual practices in patients, it will actually help with the recovery process by making them more in tune with their bodies. Therefore I think and believe that being more spiritually aligned certainly should be adapted in traditional science facilities. My question is: How big is this positive impact and significance on healing patients by incorporating more spiritual exercises?
