Weiyue Lin-Week 8
A new theory of the
universe is founded on the tenets of Biocentrism. Robert Lanza postulates that
everything is a creation of the observer and not the observed. He changes the
long-held view that life is a creation of the universe and instead turns it the
other way round. The theory relies on science and philosophy. Biology plays a
central role in understanding Biocentrism. He wittingly marries physics and
biology to put forth shattering views about life, space, time, and death. The
author goes further to prove that life is more than a mixture of elements and
that it is fundamentally immortal. There are many puzzles that science is yet
to answer, and Biocentrism offers a new dimension to addressing them. The
theory takes into account the role of conscience. Lanza postulates that
combining life and consciousness could be the ultimate window for understanding
life’s most puzzles. He offers that understanding the universe starts from the
mind. Biocentrism is disruptive to modern science and brings in the aspect of
spirituality through the conscious mind (Robert). There are many
challenges today that could be understood through the theory. Taking the theory
in its face value, it is easy to understand why the sky is blue and not red. Neuroscience
has proved that the colors in the making of the brain and that the same brain
can be chemically engineered to have a different view. This supports Lanza’s
perspective that life creates the universe and not the other way round. If
current scientists can appreciate that science and conscience can work in
harmony, most of the challenges could be addressed. Therefore, the theory
challenges science to come from the old paradigm and embrace external forces as
an integrated segment.
