Week 1 Blog Entry: Spirit Realm and Near Death Experiences
A reading from this week that related to the theme of spirit
realm and near death experiences is the work of Contzen Pereira and J Shashi
Kiran Reddy, who attempted to explain non-local consciousness (disembodiment),
something that is largely ignored by science, in scientific light (Pereira and
Reddy, 952). They hypothesize that the overall state of the body is formed by
bodily consciousness (which regulates bodily and cell functions) and functional
consciousness (which is likely the main cause for non-local conscious
experiences during a person’s near death experience) and quantum entanglement
between these two forms of consciousness are responsible for the capacity of
“storing information holographically within a vacuum” and create memories
beyond the limitations of our physical brain and body.
This hypothesis is supported by several individuals with NDE
experiences. Among them is Anita Moorjani, who held a Tedx talk
called “Dying to be Me.” She explains her fight with terminal cancer and talks
about an experience of “expanded consciousness” in her comatose state. She
explains the NDE as an event that turned on the floodlights in a pitch-black
warehouse where she saw only with a flashlight beam. Her awareness is much
increased now even though the lights have been “switched off.”
A question I had about the reading is: if death means the
shift of one’s consciousness from one dimension of the hologram to another
(Pereira and Reddy, 963), is said consciousness retrievable from the new
dimension? Can it be accessed by, say, shamans or others who experience NDE?
