Week 5 - Rethinking the Western Health Services - Ryan Tong

As the world becomes cluttered with dangers and fears of war and disease, there are other underlying matters that although may not be of the same severity, they are problems that must be addressed. Electromagnetic fields caused by the computers, phones, and most particularly Wi-Fi.

According to the article “Is Wi-Fi in Schools Safe?” by Boston Parents Paper, we live in a world where “we encounter 100 million times the exposure to artificial EMF radiation than our grandparents did.” Suppose that this statistic is true. Due to the technological world that we live in and are forced to live in, this increase in exposure is ordinary and expected.

Children are becoming more susceptible to the exposure of electromagnetic fields. What we need to change is not reducing the Wi-Fi placed in schools, but to find alternatives to combat the increased exposure of electromagnetic fields. There will only be more and more of side effects caused by the technology that plays such an importance in our everyday lives.

The only thing that needs to be questioned is how would this be possible. Not much is known about how to resolve the increase of electromagnetic fields. Research would need to be done to discover how to reduce these waves. Some kind of barrier or wall structures can be built to prevent such exposure. How much of this can be prevented? Is there a future where our world will not be so technologically inclined? For myself, I do not think so.

Of course, schools could block the use of Wi-Fi on their campuses, but the fields would still be in play from other technological advances in today and tomorrow’s society. We have to innovate new preventions and treatments to increasing electronical world that molds our society. The effects of electromagnetic fields may be gradual, but so is our discovery in defending against this radiation.
