Week 7 - Andrew Wong

The article we read, A New Theory of the Universe discussed how there are many different fields of study that are rooted in science, and try to explain the universe. She advocates for many different scientific backgrounds be incorporated into one larger theory. I tend to agree. Physics and chemistry would set up a really good framework to understanding the universe, as it was created, but as she says biology helps explain it there after. The aftermath of what happened when the universe was created could add more dimensions to the answer of what started it all. However, everyone wants to be best in their field and they want to believe in supremacy for that discipline. I have a friend who is studying physics and he totally blows off people who study what he considers a less rigorous kind of science. That is why so few scientists are inspired to work together, especially with how competitive the field is. Further, that would mean that scientists would want to stay away from philosophers, as their work is based in theory.

Honestly, I am someone who takes space and time for granted. I’m studying political science which to me is very complicated with the different dimensions of thought. Theory versus president, national versus international, so on and so forth. I don’t end up spending much of any time thinking about what transpired prior to Rome. I would also have nothing to say about the expanding capabilities of space. This a sad fact of how humans engage in tunnel vision and don’t get to have intellectual journeys with each other. It would probably make for a different society, if we all shared this common interest with each other and worked together to solve problems. We would probably also be further along, and more people would be interested in answering questions.
