Week 7 - Kimberly Pariyavanh

While reading the article, “A New Theory of the Universe”, I was reminded of the debate between people who think the creation of the universe is by their god and those who look at the scientific facts. Although I feel that there is more information to the universe than we (humans) may be able to grasp, I think through science and religion we are able to take something abstract and make it almost concrete for us to understand. I feel that there is always something more to learn about how the universe was created or why it even exists. Although religion and science helps us to understand, I feel that it also acts as limitations. In order to avoid this limiting knowledge, there needs to be a constant search for knowledge and answers.

This article reminded me that Earth and humans are only a small piece of the universe. I was reminded of its vastness and its various possibilities. I am curious if in the future, humans would be able to travel further into space and potentially experience the different possibilities provided by the universe. I feel that for now, humans can only project what they hope to find through images in movies and shows such as Futurama.

Question: What are your thoughts on how the universe was created? (Tie in your own experiences with your religious beliefs or your thoughts on the scientific aspect)

*An interesting series to watch: "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" -- It's hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I've only seen a few episodes, but I think the way it is narrated makes it interesting and the visuals are great! It's available on Netflix.
