Week 10 - Mary Moua
As a Community and Regional
Development major, the use of spirit realm and spirituality could definitely be
used to build community that we in the major aim to accomplish. There are many
ways to build community and the spirit realm could be one of those methods that
helps us achieve that. While most of the CRD classes focus on achieving
community development by teaching about aspects such as housing, education,
local governance, and technology, I think it’d be interesting to see a class
about spirituality be taught and assess how community development can be
accomplished by talking about the spirit realm and how this will be measured
specifically. Just like how we did with this class, I think having small group
activities focused on spirituality, being aware of your surroundings, paying
attention to what your mind and body says, focusing on yourself and your
surroundings, and much more can be implemented for the class that’s taught
about spirit realm. Moving out of the conventional style of lecturing and classes
and incorporating more classes and styles of teaching that aren’t limited to
just the classroom would be a good strategy, especially if there’s gonna be a
class focused on spirituality and the spirit realm which includes content that
sometimes cannot be taught but that one must feel and experience themselves. A
class about the spirit realm would be definitely different compared to the
usual types of classes that I as a CRD major am used to, but is one that would
make a great example in demonstrating that community development differs in
many ways that is not always visible such as through spirituality.
