Week 10 - Matthew Mandel

My intended field of work that my degree is in is philosophy with a minor in music. I believe having the open mindedness to educate yourself and acknowledge the spirit world can have benefits in knowing more about other areas in philosophy, and what others believe. In addition to that by bringing spirituality into music you can help make modern music have more feeling in it where the musicians who have written this music ground themselves with natural sounds versus sounds that have already been put into a touch pad. Knowing more about the spirit realms and various cultures can help those who are studying philosophy expand their knowledge which is part of philosophy. 

Adding spirit realm to philosophy would be challenging because much of philosophy is studying reality and since the spirit realm is not proven with hard facts its definitely a lot harder to get people to add this type of resource to the category of philosophy. With a class that talks about other worlds like the spirit world, it can seem like an unnecessary addition to curriculum if you don't understand any benefits from the class. Some challenges to add this sort of curriculum to music is they might be skeptical as to why spirit realms have anything to do with music or how it would benefit learning.

I way to overcome this is to look at the class from another perspective. It can help open your mind and allow you to think more about other possibilities. Maybe introducing this class to students for philosophy can be explained for a benefit of exposing yourself to other ways of thinking. To achieve this in the music major, you could include how exposing yourself to such a class can help you understand other cultures and how they use music to come in contact or use music ritualistically to connect with the spirit world. Music has a lot of history with many cultures and can definitely be a reason for the class to be added. 

Question: 

Will spirit realms become so popular that it will surpass all other studies in the universities?
