Week 1 - Giverny Yang
When I was in 7th grade, my family moved into this old house my parents were renting. I can't remember too much about what happened in that house other than I would hear loud noises at unusual hours of the night while I was in bed. I remember specifically one night I was in bed trying to fall asleep when I heard this loud thud sound like something big fell. I ran to the living room, where my parents were, and asked what had happened. They said they heard something as well, but they thought they heard it coming from outside in the backyard by the side gate. I remember my parents thinking maybe someone had jumped the fence and made the garbage bins fall, so they went into my brother's room, by the side gate, and checked the windows. Everything seemed normal so I just went back to bed. I didn't think much of it at the time. After that, occasionally we'd hear noises from our backyard but I always thought of it as the wind. For example, it would sound like someone was moving the bag of cans/water bottles at night. That's the most that I could remember about the house but my parents sometimes talk about how my sister, who had just been born that year we moved in, would always cry really hard at the top of her lungs when she was left alone in the master room, even if my mom was right in the bathroom.
My religion is Shamanism, but I don't really know much about it because when I would question what we were doing my dad or grandparents would just say, "it's just what we have to do" so I never really I never understood what was happening. I just remember one day we had a spiritual healing event for my dad where a Shaman came. I never knew what it was for, but shortly after we moved out of that house. On the last day of packing, my aunt was talking to me and she said, "Wow I can't believe this house is haunted," and I remember being super confused and made her tell me what she knew. She had told me that the Shaman said that two Mexican guys had killed themselves in the master room years ago and that before then an old black woman had taken her life in that room as well. I later put together that all those noises I heard were not just the wind outside.
