Yueming Tan

I always think that I am an atheist. I don't believe that there are ghosts and gods or other spirits in the world. But a strange thing that happened last summer completely changed my view of the world. I used to work part-time in a Mochi store in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. It was a very old shop that opened in 1903. One day my colleague told me that she had seen a "strange" thing in the store's warehouse. Another colleague of mine also told me that she had seen the "strange" thing. I don't think so because I didn't believe in the existence of ghosts in the world and I don't think I need to be afraid of them. When I entered the warehouse again, I felt something behind me. My body started to feel weird, and I wanted to leave the warehouse right away. Be honest, I felt terrified at the time, but I didn't look back because I was afraid to see something scary. This is a terrible memory because I don't want to repeat the mood at the time and I am thinking about it now, if I go back, what will happen to me.

On the other hand, my family believes that there is a supernatural phenomenon in the world. For example, one of the Chinese cultures is to worship the ancestors to gain strength and protection. Most Chinese believe that the souls of their ancestors have not disappeared even though their bodies are gone. So every year they worship their ancestors and tell their ancestors that they need protection and aspirations.
