ASA 189
Yueming Tan

In the article "What a Shaman Sees in A Mental Hospital" by Stephanie Marohn, the author states that Western treatment of mental illness and treatment is too violent. On the other hand, the author points out that the West believes that mental illness is a very sensitive topic, and people ignore it or even misunderstand the existence and significance of the spiritual world. At the same time, an important person in the article, Dr. Some, pointed out that he could see a lot of things that others could not see and that they always existed around people. I believe that Doctor Some is a healer (Shaman) because he can see the spirit that others can't see. At the same time, I believe that the West has obvious deficiencies in the treatment of mental illness, even violence. Patients are often given sedatives and are forced to take large amounts of psychotropic medications, and these things make them even more “sick.”

Question: How do people detect if a person has a mental illness?
