Shamanism should be more widely taught in modern education. Many people, and I would personally know first-hand, have no clue what Shamanism is. Whenever anyone talked about religion, I would mention how I was born into Shamanism and everyone would question what it was. Most reactions I received were along the lines of, "Woah I never knew that was something people believed in." This is proof that in the Western world these practices are not taught enough. I remember in AP World History, Shamanism was briefly mentioned in the textbook and I was shocked, but I also remember being disappointed because I didn't learn anything about it other than the fact that people in indigenous societies typically practiced it. Westernized society has normalized many things and I think it's time for spiritual healing to become one of those normalized teachings. Even just teaching how Shamans are spirit healers who keep the peace between humans and nature would be knowledgeable enough information. Also, if Shamanism was more commonly known, a lot more people would probably turn to it for healing purposes, which "“We Are Not Alone” The Shamans Of The World Tell Us" says is the primary Shamanic work. Having alternative options to healing methods could save so many more people.

In the article, ""We Are Not Alone" The Shamans Of The World Tell Us," the author writes, "Effective education must have a large experiential component, and shamanic practice can be a totally engaging experience," but I must disagree with this. Yes, Shamanism should be explored in educational purposes but I do not believe people need to engage with it in order to learn. It can be taught without having to involved in it. It isn't a hands-on learning experience for everyone, but if people wanted to personally experience it they could go to see a Shaman, but it is not the only way to effectively teach it. Educating the population about non-scientific alternatives like Shamanism could really be beneficial in today's world so why hasn't it happened yet?
