Week 5 - Kenrick Chiang

In this week's reading, "You are here: locating spirituality on the map of the current medical world," I thought a lot of the ideas mentioned were really helpful in the sense that they helped me understand the themes of this week a bit more. The reading focuses on clinical work and how some of it revolves around spirituality, religion, theology, and medicine. The article also talks about how these all relate with one another and how spiritual-healers become a part of the health-care system. After reading this article, I truly felt like it really important to find how religion and spirituality can fit in the giant spectrum that is health care. As seeing that there can be benefits and pitfalls, it is important to understand how these two can connect and help each other out. I honestly never really thought of our health care being involved in spirituality and religion whatsoever because I usually assumed that it involved science. This probably comes from personal experiences where I have never really come close to any form of spiritual healing. Seeing how this week's themes are "Rethinking the Western Health Services," I definitely thought that the ideas presented in this article helped me rethink about our health care. I personally found it to be rather informative in the sense that it presented a lot of information I did not know previously.
