Week 2 - Thu Cao

Shamans are people who have the power to contact with the spirit world. They are considered to be media between the living and spirit world. Shamans cannot be taught or learned. A person will become Shaman if they are called to be. Shamans consider themselves as God’s helper. They help people to connect with the spirit world. They can help to heal some kinds of illness. I believe that the spirit world does not have space, time and matter like our world, so the spirits can appear and disappear in many places. Therefore, people in this spirit world may know the matter that people in the living world cannot know. The shaman can help to ask questions with the spirits. Sometimes, they can ask if our illnesses can be healed and how. Today reading, I get the information that shamans now can incorporate with physicians at some hospitals. As I know, there are not many Shamans nowadays due to its selective property. It could not be taught or inherited. Then if there was no existence of shamans in the future, so we can only see them in movies and documents. Some people doubt about their work and me too. I don’t believe them one hundred percent. But for me, as long as they don’t harm people but they can help the communities and bring good things to people, they are supported to do. I respect them and their work as a part of a culture in this world.
