The article A New
Theory of the Universe is highly intriguing as it encourages us to really
think about the concept of existence, beyond ourselves. The author came to this
thought when he was taking a walk and became fascinated with a glowworm. The
glowworm made him think, were they intruding the world of the worm, or was the
worm intruding on them. The author wanted us to think even beyond this notion
and question concept society has created. For instance, the author wants us to
think about the theories we have created. Are they actual scientific facts or
are they stories we have created? The author also keys in on the concept of interpretation.
They state with perception nothing exists, how we choose to understand life is
very important. Personally, I found this article to be really interested as it
is something that I have always wondered. How did we create language and
develop the concept within humanity as means of communication? How did we
decide that the moon does what it does, and what the sun does? I always found
the concept of interpretation to be such a powerful tool, as we have humans
have decided to interpret and negotiate social norms to live in the society we
choose to do. There have been a lot of positives to this, as we have created
laws and regulations that protect us. Though we also have concepts we choose to
ignore, such as homeless people are still people and deserve help. Overall this
article just makes me think about how many of us are bound by the rules of society,
and how others are able to break beyond that.
