Bradley Kitaoka - Week 2
For my
week two reading I decided to look at “An Approach to Prove the Existence of
After Life by Analyzing Near Death Experience’s Data with Mathematical Logic”.
I chose to read this article because a big reason why people don’t believe in
the after life is because there isn’t any solid evidence about. But since this
article explains it using numbers it can give people who don’t believe logistical
reasoning on why it is a real thing. So, I was curious in seeing how they use
values to determine their points. However, after reading the article they made
it seem like some points are incomplete and left me with some questions. For
example, in the section when they were explaining the values for their variables,
they said “it is mathematically undetermined” and that “modern science can’t
calculate the actual value”. Although I understand it’s hard to put a value on
people’s emotions, I feel that they could’ve worded this better to make the
values seem more accurate. Also, their explanation of time also left me with a
few questions. Even though some of their research left me confused overall I
thought it was explained well especially to people who have never heard of this
stuff before. The paper did a good job explaining near death experiences and
how people experience them. I feel like if technology in medicine continues to
develop they could apply values to some of the missing variables and this evidence
could make even the strongest non-believer change their opinion on the afterlife.

Question: In the article they talked about how time was
different for every organism. I understand how time can be different when people
are sleeping but not too sure about organisms. Is this saying how time for flies,
which have a lifespan of about 2 weeks, experience 24 hours differently from
how we experience 24 hours?
