Christine Chau - Week 1

This week has been a pretty hard week to find motivation to work from home and stay focused in studies. Times like these are very hard for those who are underprivileged. It didn't occur to me that a lot of us who are bored at home with "nothing to do" are very privileged compared to other countries who physically cannot social distance or who cannot find proper food/sanitation. Not that our experiences aren't valid, but we should keep in mind of what privilege we have during a pandemic. When it comes to the naming of the virus and the constant uses of "Chinese Virus" is purely ignorant beyond me. There is completely no reason to refer it as the Chinese virus, when the virus itself, Corona already has its own name. People always find excuses to display their racist xenophobic selves and know they can get away with it because America allows them to. The President and officials of U.S sets examples of racism/xenophobia by allowing names such as the Chinese virus or even the "kung flu". There's probably not much we can do but to protect the communities who are vulnerable to times like these and remember the strengths we carry within our communities. I feel as if we would tire ourselves out trying to out prove generational racism. I hope in this class we are able to have a safe space of open judge free communication in order for us to dive deep into the spiritual realm topics that can be related to today's crisis.

My question is how do we normalize spiritual realm and how we can use it in a way where people will not shoot down our theories and experiences because they quite often do not seem "real"?
