Linda Xiao- Week 1

Since the end of the last quarter, I have been staying at home all day and all night. My family is very concerned about the Coronavirus. Even before the State sent out the notice for social distancing, my family already had stocked up on food supplies for at least two months. My parents do not allow anyone to visit our house, including family members. When WuHan first announced the virus, my family and I felt sympathy for everyone suffering but we also felt glad that the United States was far away from that. However, only a few months later, we are in their position and it’s getting worse. In China, wearing face masks and gloves is not an issue. In the United States, there is racism and violence towards the Chinese and other Asians. It is very sad to see many Asians become victims just because of their ethnicity and people’s racist assumptions. People treat this virus differently. It is still very controversial. There are people who compare it to the flu and think it is not that much more serious. I wish there was a way to let people know that it is fine to wear a mask and gloves. It is a way to protect yourself and protect others. There is no need for people to panic when you see someone wearing a mask. During this hard time, we all should learn to work as a big family, helping each other out, especially the elderly and the homeless. The elderlies are having trouble getting supplies. My mom, who is an in-home career worker, went to an elderly’s house to help them get their food and essential supplies. Many people are dying daily. There is a lack of protection, hospital care, medical equipment, etc. Many doctors are faced with having to choose which lives to save. The world is facing a terrible tragedy. I wish I could do more to help out, but I know staying home right now is the best way to help. During my enrollment in this course, I hope to learn more about mental health and information relating to this virus. I also want to know thoughts towards the virus from people from different religions and backgrounds. I want to know how to maintain a healthy spiritual mindset, which I think is important now that this virus is causing a lot of worry and stress.
Question: Will the reflection of the Coronavirus among my peers be similar to mine? Why or why not?
