Linda Xiao— week 3
This week we read some articles relating to the spirit healer. After reading all three stories, I felt the PaLor story, The Journey Between Two Worlds, gave me the biggest impression. The story is very interesting and also impressive. She had an ordinary beginning until she got sick during her college years. She was sick for five years. Instead of a doctor or a chiropractor, a shaman helped her get well. I admire her interaction with the spiritual world. I am surprised to know she also became a shaman. Even though I do not have similar experience, I don’t see myself becoming a shaman. I remember a time when my parents took me along to visit one of my aunts, who is a very devoted Buddhist. I am not sure if she is a shaman, but I remember her performing a certain ritual. She was shaking a Buddhist bracelet while chanting. She told me to pray while she chanted, and she recorded spiritual information onto a piece of paper. The day before I visited her I was very sick. She told me she was able to give me the positive energy that will support my spiritual recovery. After she finished writing on the piece of yellow paper, she burned it and then put it into a cup of water. She told me to drink it because the water will heal me from the inside.
