Macrina Mackan - Week 2

The theme of near-death experiences for this week was something I could not wait to learn more about. I have made it my goal to be completely open-minded during this course and to learn as much as possible about spirituality. We were required to read two scientific papers related to this week's theme and all I can say is that I had no interest in them whatsoever. They had to do with quantum physics and mathematical equations, something I am in no way familiar with. This being a class titled "spirit realm", I expected the readings to be nonscientific and personal, but that was not the case. The reading I enjoyed the most was Professor Valverde's near-death experience. I read through the paper for the first time not knowing that this was a personal recount from my own professor! I read it and was amazed at the miracle that was bestowed. We were only required to read the first few pages, so the recount was brief and lacked insight on what it was like to have died for 90 minutes and what it was like to have been in a coma. The story was hard to believe because medical miracles never seem to happen. From what I was reading, the person who was telling this story seemed so grateful and was aware that they should have died. I think an experience like this can change someone's whole life, and I can only imagine it did. I was not aware that Professor Valverde had written the paper until she mentioned it in class. It was during this class discussion that she provided us with what the paper was missing, more on what happened during those 90 minutes of clinical death and the time spent in a coma. Her experiences were like nothing I had heard before. It's interesting to hear how each near-death experience is different for everyone and has me wondering: Is what you see during a near death experience related to your experiences of the world up to that point, or is everything up to that point obsolete? After this week's topic, I decided to listen to a few more near death experiences and this is by far my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJZCjLNhpik
