The outbreak of coronavirus was first officially reported to the World Health Organization by Chinese
authorities in Wuhan on December 31, 2019. It then rapidly spread all over the world and until now,
the numbers of infected people and deaths are still on the rise. This virus outbreak has sickened
hundreds of thousands and more than 60,000 people have died. Because of this pandemic that started
in Wuhan, China, since then, Asians and especially Chinese people have become the targets of
xenophobia and racism related to coronavirus. Everyday, racist incidents and anti Asian racism have
been documented and reported in social media. Even president Trump states the “Chinese Virus.”
Which I think is a bad example toward racism. This only makes the problem worse and causes innocent
people to be hurt from things like this. This also detracts people from focusing their time on ways to help
and focusing on who is to blame instead which accomplishes nothing. Another scary thing in times of
panic this could create angry mobs that might use this as a way to loot Asian populated communities
causing destruction to grocery stores and other essential shops. I learn a lot from this pandemic,
racisms still exist and people are blaming each other for the cause. I think this is not the time that we
should blame each other but instead the world should unite and try to solve this problem together.

Question: How can people do their part on helping their local communities to help in crisis like this?
