Week 1
Coronavirus Reflection
As an ASA major, I can't help but to constantly think about the many effects that COVID-19 has been having on Asian America. It is disheartening, outraging, and disappointing to see the hatred that Asians have been facing around the world and in places so close to me. I will not go over all the different types of hate we have been facing as a collective race because most of us are already aware of what has been happening and it's depressing to repeat that type of news. Although it is sad and repetitive, it is still good to have as much media coverage as possible. Even with the amount of news coverage Asians have been getting because of racist acts brought upon by COVID-19, there are still stories being hidden and ignored. It is important for we, as Asians, to do our part in working to stop the hate, reporting these acts to data collectors, and avoiding perpetuation of these stereotypes that "define" us. In addition, I hope that our fellow brothers and sisters of different colors will stand with us in solidarity, rather than using this opportunity to further divide minorities. The division between minorities are at an all time high and I can only hope that people will start educating themselves for the sake of being less ignorant to different cultures...
How can you try to educate someone who doesn't want to listen? (There are many answers to this, but some are more effective than others.)
