Bradley Kitaoka - Week 7
This
week I chose to read “My Mother Not My Mother” by Professor Valverde. I decided
to read this book due to Mother’s Day being this Sunday. The article was very
emotional but also a very interesting read that kept my attention the entire
time. I can only imagine how hard it must have been not knowing your mother super
well. I am lucky enough to have my mom around who is supportive of what I choose
to do and caring and I am pretty sure my life would be completely different if I
didn’t have her presence in my life. However, I think your point of view of
your mother is similar to many kids growing up. At first when we are young, we
might resent them for some of the things they did to us. It isn’t until we are
much older than we learn the full story about why our parents did these things
and understand that they were just trying to help us or keep us safe. I’m not
implying that your mother made the right or wrong decision but it did seem at
first that she left you with your grandparents at first to try and give you a
good life.

Question: I was a little confused at the ending so did you
ever meet your mother or were you just staying with your aunt in Oakland?
