Marika Candelaria - Week 7
In Professor Valverde’s reading about her mother, it made me realize how significant our mothers are and how people’s stories can alternate depending on their mother’s relationship. I do not usually think about this when I meet new people in my life and never truly acknowledge how powerful a woman's nurture could be. This also made me reflect on my own relationship with my mother. I believe that I have always had a strong and open relationship with her, which makes me reciprocate the same personality she spreads to others. I always pictured her as my role model. Since a mother’s care is highly significant for a person’s personality and growth, I think this could be a possibility as to why females are more attracted to the spirit realm. Our ability to give life and conceive is a power that is very special and unique to any form of life. As we discussed prenatal care during this week’s lecture, I thought about the devalued treatments of mothers in hospitals. Giving birth is not an easy job to do, and many surgeons today do not acknowledge that--usually they want mothers to leave as soon as possible in order to get their next patient. The recovery process takes a long time and becoming a mother is a huge transition. Not only that, but the unnatural chemicals they give to babies is not healthy. I think that this is a reason why the spirit realm attracts females more. We have a special gift that no one else has and the ability to give life. One question I have-- How can we change the system of hospitals in order to give a proper birthing environment for future mothers and how can we allow natural remedies in the hospitals?
