Matchima Prasansin - Week 5
“What a Shaman Sees in A Mental Hospital” is about a shaman who observes western medical practices on mental illness patients versus how he and his village treat the same diseases. Dr. Show is in shock when he sees how Americans are being treated for mental illness. Just lots of pills and straightjackets like some sort of sick twisted horror film. After about a week or so Dr.Show has had enough with the insanity going on and has to take a break from observing. While taking a break from the chaos that is in western medicine, he comes up with an idea to take a mental illness patient back to his village, so he could help him. Dr. Show takes Alex back to his village and begins to cure him. Within weeks Alex is having amazing results and having less problems. After a year or so, Alex is almost cured with almost zero problems. Alex decides to actually stay in the village for a while after his great success because he is too scared of what goes on in American mental hospitals. Fearing for his life, Alex is very cautious about returning to America and stays for another couple of years. After fully recovering, Alex decides to go home to America and attend Harvard College. He graduates after a short term there and goes on to live a normal life. This is just 1 case of Dr. Show work on mental illness and this is a great way to look at this problem in a different light to come up with better solutions on curing mental illness.
What other diseases can be cured by alternative practices instead of waiting on big
corporations to sell us a magic pill that usually causes more problems than it fixes?
