Science Catches Up to the Spirit Realm
'You are here': locating 'spirituality' on the map of the current medical world, by Parmeshwaran Ramakrishnan, touches upon the the studies of integrating spiritual healing into the current world of medicine, while also demonstrating how clinical studies are being performed. The article explains how teaching spiritual care skills to health care providers can be beneficial in finding oneself through identity searching and being generally more aware of their own thoughts/feelings. This reading remind me of my group's final project in that we compare some aspects of Western modern medicine to spiritual healing. It seems that a large aspect of this study is about mentality and a sense of self, which is very important to be aware of, especially as we are all going through difficulties at this time. I would like to use this article to question the progress of inclusiveness and openness. It is obvious that certain parts of the world are not entirely open-minded about traditional medicine and spiritual healing, so how can steps like these (in the article) be further pushed to increase global awareness of alternative medicine? How can we educate people on these practices and push the mode of open thinking without sounding too pushy or like it is propaganda?
