Upon reading the paper, Earth Song as Storywork: Reclaiming Indigenous Knowledge, I found it fascinating how they used songs as a way to communicate with the Earth. Music is used to connect with the Earth and the Earth speaks to us to let us know what song to sing or play. Since music is a synchronous harmony, it is similar to how the Earth is. Everything needs to work in harmony and synchrony to have a harmonious balance. Because of this, teachers are encouraged to ask their students to use music and songs to write their own songs to communicate with the Earth and spirits. The paper also mentioned how the Indigenous people communicate with Mother Nature through songs and that each object on Earth has its own song. A song, is essentially a story. Song also gives a sense of belonging and place. It gives us an understanding of the world around us. The story of the person driving and humming and finding the women could possibly be used to describe how a song can connect us in ways that we would not be able to by ourselves. The future of spirit realm studies basically shows that we are all connected through song and music. Music and song are unique just like every single being on this Earth.
