Christine Chau - Week 10

I never really realized how religion has played such a huge role in Western societies. It was something that I thought was normal, or a part of life. During this course, being able to view spirituality in a new perspective, it's crazy to think how it's been silenced throughout all these years. Everything we do and everything in our lives is connected to religion. I recall Anna saying that religion allows someone to believe in something and have hope to hang on during tough times in their lives. Having a savior or something to believe in helps people go through harsh realities. But when people turn to spiritual healing to do that exact same thing, people often say those people are crazy, or it's impossible to be a medium, or to be spiritually connected to another realm. What makes jesus so real? What makes god so real? All these things essentially come from the same reasoning- we all just faith in something. The only thing is that people have a very hard time understanding differences within communities. Christians only claim that god can be the only creator and determinate on this earth, but not everyone believes in god. It's quite frustrating to see religion clash into our politics and government, so much for separation of church and state, but there is not really a separation. It's been hundreds of years and we still have the same majority type of people running this country who do not represent the people. They simply represent corporations who support their campaigns for reelection. America was never for the people. America is for money and corporations. I think if we are able to educate more folks on spirituality and how it can actually be beneficial to a lot of people, there can be a way where we can open a dialogue and "normalize" spirituality. Even though it has been more known in the science communities, it also needs to be reached out to the common people.

I chose this photo because I think it truly represents America in a horrific way.
